  1.             NeoDesk® 3.02 to 3.03 Patch Program

  3.       This program will upgrade NeoDesk version 3.02 to
  4.       version 3.03.  It will ONLY upgrade version 3.02.
  5.  
  6.       If you have version 3.01, you will need to run a
  7.       separate upgrade program first, to upgrade you to
  8.       version 3.02.

  21. What is needed to upgrade
  22. =========================
  23.  
  24.   1.  A non-modified, registered, NeoDesk 3 Master Disk, version 3.02, and
  25.       a version 3.02 Extras Disk.  This version of the program works with
  26.       the USA release only.  Owners of foreign versions should contact
  27.       their respective distributor.
  28.       
  29.   2.  A hard disk or a blank, double-sided, formatted floppy disk (to
  30.       place the PATCH303.PRG and the DATA files on).

  33. How to upgrade your NeoDesk version 3.02 to version 3.03
  34. =========================================================
  35.  
  36.   1.  Make sure you have made a backup copy of both NeoDesk 3 disks.
  37.  
  38.       Note: If you have modified or created any new icons using the Icon
  39.         Editor, you should save a ".NIC" file containing those icons.
  40.         This upgrade will replace your resource files, where NeoDesk
  41.         stores its icons.  This means that you will lose any new icons
  42.         you have (unless you save them to a ".NIC" file which you can
  43.         then load into the new version).
  44.  
  45.   2.  Place the PATCH303.PRG on your hard disk or on the blank floppy disk
  46.       (it may need the extra disk space to write some temporary files).
  47.       Also, copy the eight "DATA" files to the same directory.
  48.  
  49.   3.  The patch program will run more quickly and with the fewest disk
  50.       swaps if you give it as much free memory as possible. If you have
  51.       less than 500K of free memory, you can disable AUTO folder programs
  52.       and desk accessories to obtain more free memory.
  53.  
  54.   4.  DO NOT RUN THE PATCH PROGRAM FROM NEODESK! Run PATCH303.PRG from the
  55.       built-in desktop and follow the prompts.
  56.  
  57.   5.  Once you have finished upgrading your master disk to version 3.03,
  58.       make a backup copy of this newer version.
  59.  
  60.   ** VERY IMPORTANT STEP, READ CAREFULLY **
  61.  
  62.   6.  To install the newer version on your system, you MUST replace ALL the
  63.       NeoDesk 3.02 files in your system with the 3.03 version files.  The
  64.       patch program is automatically set up to do just this.  If, however,
  65.       you do not choose to use the patch program to copy the files, you
  66.       MUST manually replace all copies of these files:
  67.       
  68.       Master Disk:   Contents of \NEODESK3 folder
  69.       Extras Disk:   \ACC\NEOCNTRL.ACC
  70.              \ACC\NEOCNTRL.RSC
  71.              \ACC\NEOQ_C.RSC
  72.              \ACC\NEOQ_M.RSC
  73.              \INF_CONV\INF_CONV.NPG
  74.              \INF_CONV\INF_CONV.RSC
  75.              \FONTS\FONTCONV.NPG
  76.              \FONTS\FONTCONV.RSC
  77.              \FONTS\FONTLOAD.PRG
  78.              The file \JARXXX\JARXXX.PRG needs to run before
  79.              NEOLOAD.PRG, preferably in the AUTO folder. See the
  80.              file JARXXX.DOC on the upgraded Extras Disk.

  82.       Mixing 3.02 versions of NeoDesk 3 files with 3.03 versions is VERY
  83.       likely to lead to problems.

  85.  *** ULTRA IMPORTANT **
  86.  *
  87.  *    Don't forget to replace all the copies of NEOLOAD.PRG, including the
  88.  *    one in the AUTO folder of your boot disk, if you don't let the patch
  89.  *    program do this automatically for you.

  92.   7.  If you use XBoot or another AUTO folder file manager, please see the
  93.       section "An Important Note", below.
  94.  
  95.   8.  If you have saved macro (.MAC) files, the enclosed MAC_CONV.PRG must
  96.       be used to convert them to the 3.03 format.
  97.  
  98.   9.  If you own the Neodesk Accessories Disk, please run the enclosed
  99.       PATCH_CN.PRG to update Call NeoDesk to the newer 1.01 version.
  100.  
  101.   10. You can now run NeoDesk 3.03.  It is strongly suggested that you
  102.       re-boot the computer to do this, otherwise you may end up mixing
  103.       files from 3.03 with older 3.02 programs which are still resident in
  104.       memory. When NeoDesk first loads, you will most likely get a message
  105.       saying that your .INF file is not the correct version. This is to be
  106.       expected, since the format has changed slightly. See Step 11.
  107.   
  108.   11. You can now run the icon editor to re-load your old icons from the
  109.       NIC file (from Step 1).
  110.  
  111.   12. You can also use the INF_CONV.NPG program to convert your old NeoDesk
  112.       information (.INF) files.

  115. If you get an error message
  116. ===========================
  117.  
  118.   If your NeoDesk 3 disks have been modified in any way, the patch program
  119.   may not be able to perform the upgrade.  You will get an error message
  120.   indicating that this has happened.  In this case, you should mail us both
  121.   disks so that we can upgrade them.
  122.  
  123.   To have your disk upgraded by us, you need to:
  124.  
  125.   1.  Send your original, registered, NeoDesk 3.02 Masters AND Extras
  126.       Disks.
  127.   2.  If you did not purchase the Patch Disk directly from us, please
  128.       enclose a U.S. check for $5 + $2 shipping & handling ($7 total).
  129.   3.  Enclose a note with your name, address, and daytime phone number.
  130.  
  131.   In return you will receive the upgraded 3.03 Master and Extras Disks.

  134. An Important Note (Especially for XBoot Users!)
  135. ===============================================
  136.  
  137.   NeoDesk 3.03 includes a new program, called JARxxx. This program is used
  138.   by NeoDesk for managing the system's Cookie Jar.  In order for NeoDesk to
  139.   run, this file must be run beforehand.  The easiest way to make sure that
  140.   it runs first is to copy it into the first slot in the AUTO folder.
  141.  
  142.   If you use XBoot or another AUTO folder management program, please be
  143.   sure to set JARxxx so that it will be active when the computer reboots.
  144.   Otherwise, NeoDesk will not run.
  145.  
  146.   For more information about JARxxx, please refer to the file JARXXX.DOC,
  147.   which is on the newly upgraded Extras Disk.

  150. What's New
  151. ==========
  152.  
  153. o When a folder is opened, the position of the window scroll bars are
  154.   saved.  When the folder is closed, the old scroll position is restored.
  155.  
  156. o A "Delete Item" menu option has been added. This makes it easier to
  157.   delete things when the trashcan is not visible. Please note that this is
  158.   a permanent deletion; the Recoverable Trashcan is not used.
  159.  
  160. o Show Information works for multiple items on the desktop or in windows.
  161.   If no item is selected, the topmost window's info is shown.
  162.  
  163. o Pressing Backspace will do the same thing as the "send to back" button on
  164.   the topmost window.
  165.  
  166. o High and Extended density floppy formats have been added. In order to use
  167.   High Density, you must have a 1.44Mb drive and the proper version of TOS.
  168.  
  169. o The "Fast-11" disk format has been added. This is optimal for 9-sector
  170.   disks. Twister is still best for 10-sector ones.
  171.  
  172. o The "Set Preferences" dialog has been changed cosmetically. Also, a
  173.   "More" dialog has been added:
  174.  
  175.   o If an error occurs while files are being copied, then any files which
  176.     are in memory but have not been written to the destination disk can be
  177.     automatically moved to the File Clipboard. The "More" dialog contains
  178.     an option which specifies whether to Ask before doing this, to Always
  179.     do this, or Never to do it at all.
  180.     
  181.     There are times when this will not be possible, though. If there is not
  182.     enough free memory in the system, then the files will not be stored.
  183.     Also, any file which is only partially in memory will not be stored.
  184.   
  185.   o The Format for Diskcopy is what is used when copying from one floppy to
  186.     another, with the "Format" option.
  187.  
  188.   o If "Check for Executable Bootsector" is off, no virus check is
  189.     performed. This makes updating drives significantly faster on machines
  190.     that use AHDI with a Syquest drive.

  192.   o If "Check for Bad Filenames" is off
